DivisionEligibility
TPT 250Each player below League Index 2.50
TPT 400Each player from League Index 2.50 to below 4.00
TPT MastersEach player League Index 4.00 and above
  • Exactly 2.50 belongs in TPT 400, and exactly 4.00 belongs in TPT Masters.
  • The higher-Index partner determines the pair’s minimum division.
  • Upward entry is allowed with TPT approval. Nobody may enter below their assessed level.
  • Each player may enter one division only.
  • The Tournament Director confirms placement before the draw. TPT may refuse or move an unsuitable entry, with a refund if there is no place.
  • Provisional placements are published by 17:00 on 11 Nov. Review requests close at 12:00 on 12 Nov, with decisions by 17:00.
  • Later evidence of misrepresentation may lead to disqualification after a fair review.

Entry fee and TPT shirt

R600 per player. An optional personalised TPT shirt is R350.

OptionPrice
EntryR600 per player (R1,200 per pair)
Optional personalised TPT shirt (with your name)R350 each
Entry plus shirtR950 per player (R1,900 for two of each)
  • No shirt is compulsory.
  • Shirt orders close on a separate supplier deadline. A late entry does not guarantee a shirt.
  • Your entry gives you four scheduled short-format pool matches, subject to the withdrawal, walkover, safety and interruption rules. These are not four unrestricted full matches.

Pool match format

Eight games in total, played in a 25-minute slot. A 4–4 result is a draw.

  • A pool match is eight games in total (not first to eight). Possible results are 8–0, 7–1, 6–2, 5–3 or 4–4.
  • A 4–4 result is a draw. There is no tie-break.
  • Each pool slot is 25 minutes, and rounds start every 25 minutes from 09:00.
  • When the clock expires, only the rally in progress is finished. A rally that completes a game counts. Otherwise the unfinished game is discarded.
  • The pair ahead on completed games wins. Equal completed games is a draw.
  • Report the score to the results desk immediately.

Knockout match format

First to five games in a 25-minute semifinal or 30-minute final slot, with a seven-point tie-break if the clock runs out level.

  • Semifinals and finals are first to five games, with no two-game margin. At 4–4, a ninth game is played with a Star Point.
  • Semifinals are played in 25-minute slots and finals in 30-minute slots.
  • When the clock expires, the pair leading on completed games wins. If completed games are equal, a seven-point tie-break is played, winning by two points (Rule Book 2.3).
  • The tie-break has no Star Point and no guaranteed duration.
  • The losing semifinalists take 3rd and 4th, ranked by pool-stage record, and receive the points for that position.

Game scoring and Star Point

Standard 0/15/30/40 scoring with a Star Point after two advantages.

  • Games are scored 0, 15, 30 and 40.
  • At the first deuce, play advantage. If the advantage is lost, play a second advantage. If that is lost too, play one decisive Star Point.
  • Star Point receiving follows Rule Book v1.2 sections 1.2–1.3: when both pairs are mixed, the receiver must be the same sex as the server; otherwise the receivers choose a side with no sex restriction. Positions are fixed.
  • Only an official may pause the clock or record a revised finish.
  • Time-violation and conduct scales follow Rule Book 7.2–7.3.

Pool standings and tie-breaks

Win 2, draw 1, loss 0. Ties are split by head-to-head, then game difference, then games won.

  • Table points are 2 for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. These are separate from ranking points.
  • Two pairs tied: head-to-head, then overall game difference, then overall games won, then a supervised draw.
  • Three or more pairs tied: mini-table points, mini-table game difference, mini-table games won, overall game difference, overall games won, then a supervised draw. If a step leaves exactly two pairs tied, their head-to-head applies.

Lateness and walkovers

Be ready at the court when your slot starts. One game is awarded at 5 minutes late and a default at 10.

  • Be ready at the court at the start of your slot.
  • At 5 minutes late, one game is awarded to the ready pair.
  • At 10 minutes late, the absent pair is defaulted, unless the organiser caused the delay.
  • A walkover (WO) gives 2 table points to the available pair and 0 to the defaulting pair. No score is invented.

Retirements and withdrawals

A retirement awards the match to the opponent. A withdrawn pair’s pool results are removed.

  • A retirement (RET) awards the match to the opponent, with the actual score recorded.
  • A permanent pool withdrawal removes all of that pair’s pool results. Where pairs then have unequal counting matches, they are ranked by ratios.
  • If a qualified pair withdraws before its semifinal, the next eligible pair from the same pool is promoted.
  • If a semifinal winner withdraws, the remaining finalist receives the final by walkover.
  • Four pool fixtures are scheduled for every pair, but four played matches cannot be guaranteed if opponents withdraw or default.

TPT ranking points

Ranking points by division and final position. Both partners receive the full award, once, for their highest result.

Officials, scores and disputes

Call the score before each serve, confirm it immediately and raise disputes before the next serve.

  • TPT appoints a Tournament Director, a referee and a results desk. Names and contact details are published with the draw.
  • In self-officiated matches, call the score before each serve and raise any dispute before the next serve. Do not replay completed games by agreement.
  • Both pairs confirm the score immediately after the match.
  • Request corrections or challenge standings within 10 minutes. The 24-hour administrative complaint right still applies, and a written review by a non-conflicted partner follows within 7 days.

Interruptions and abandoned play

Safety comes first. Play resumes from the recorded score after a 30-minute recovery.

  • Safety comes first. Play resumes from the recorded score, with at least 30 minutes of actual recovery.
  • Fixtures only move to an approved safe court.
  • If completion needs time beyond the booking, a written venue extension is used. Otherwise play is suspended and a completion, transfer or refund decision is published.
  • The seven-point tie-break is not shortened.
  • An abandoned division has no champion. Completed semifinal losers receive the points for 3rd and 4th place and confirmed finalists receive the points for 2nd place. If pools are incomplete and fair standings cannot be confirmed, no ranking points are awarded.
  • The 30-minute recovery is measured from actual completion of the previous match, including between a semifinal and the final.

This is a proposed policy and is subject to TPT approval.
